Since three decades it has been involved in serving children s theatre; its core belief being that children of any country are its priceless possessions, which is why equipping them with comprehensive knowledge and healthy entertainment, is one of our foremost responsibilities. <br> <br> <p class="heading_1"> Auspicious Beginnings</p> In 1978-79, the international children s year, NSD s then presiding Director and renowned theatre practitioner, B.V. Karanth, began with his initiative of the children s theatre programme. In its formative years renowned theatre practitioners like Smt. Sushma Seth, Shri Balraj Pundit and Shri Ravi Verma proffered training to children and presented plays such as Raja Mange Pasina, Budhu Rajkumar and Indra Ka Singhasan Narad Ki Choti. Since then the process is continuing and many short and long term theatre workshops are being conducted and organized for children. We feel proud in stating that today many names glittering in the world of theatre/cinema/TV like Ashish Vidyarthi, Riju Bajaj, Meghna Kothari, Priti Khare and Gurusha Kapoor have received training in these workshops </div> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <div class="style2" style="text-align: justify;"> <p class="heading_1"> Programme</p> Even though resources and funds are limited in the department, yet every year three to four week long workshops for 3 to 4 hours daily for 6 to 15 years old children, are held, which amounts to approximately 40 to 45 workshops every year in different parts of the country. Besides this other children s theatre programmes are held, their description is as follows- <ul> <li style="type: disc;">NSD conducts children s workshops independently </li> <li>Conducting workshops in the country, combined with any theatre worker or theatre group wherein experts fees and travel allowance are borne by NSD. Rest all other expenses the local institution / person has to meet. No theatre worker can conduct such a workshop with his own group.
