Aacceptance Letter for new students

Dear Student,

With reference to your application and subsequent final interview held from 12th to 15th June, 2009, for admission to the Three-year Diploma Course in Dramatics, I have great pleasure in informing you that you have been selected for admission in the School for the academic session 2009 – 2012 commencing from 27th July, 2009.

You have been awarded a scholarship of Rs.3000/- (rupees three thousand only) per month for meeting expenses connected with academics such as tuition charges, traveling, books material or other equipment.

It may please be noted that the award of the scholarship to you is tentative, dependent upon your satisfactory progress in the School, which will be judged on the basis of the 1st term examination results  to be held in November/December, 2009. In case you fail to qualify in these tests to the entire satisfaction of the School, your scholarship will be cancelled and your name will be struck off from the rolls of the School.  However, after a successful completion of the above course, a Diploma in Dramatics will be awarded to you by the School.


Kindly note that your admission to the training in the School is provisional. If you are to be found unsuitable the School will reconsider your continuation in the Course. The Director’s decision in this regard shall be final.

The award of the scholarship will be subject to the following terms and conditions:

 i)  You are not in receipt of a scholarship, fellowship or other emoluments or aid from any other sources for training at the School.

ii)  You are required to receive full-time training in the School during the term of your scholarship.  During this period you are not supposed to do any other work, including any other academic studies.  However, if you are interested to take up an academic course connected with the field of your training, you are required to apply to the Director for prior permission.

iii)   You will not be allowed to go abroad for performances etc., with any visiting troupe, unless it is a part of the School’s programme.

 iv) Your scholarship will be payable with effect from the date on which you actually report to the Director and commence training, but only after the prescribed bond (duly executed) together with the Solvency Certificate (duly completed) is received by the School, is checked and found alright.  The scholarship is payable to you after the receipt of the aforesaid Bond at the end of each month of training and will continue to be paid till the date of termination of the course.  The School, however, reserves the right to terminate the scholarship at any time for any specified reason.

v)   The Scholarship is offered to you subject to the terms & conditions as laid down in the Surety Bond.  You are required to furnish the Surety Bond, duly executed and completed in all respects, by the 7th   July, 2009.

vi)  You will be allowed holidays on Sundays, Saturdays, and festivals of religious importance and others as observed by the Central Government at Delhi.  You may, however, be called upon to participate in activities connected with the School, such as rehearsals, performances, special classes etc., on any such days and will have to attend them.   You will have to maintain attendance at 90 percent in rehearsals and productions and 75 percent in theory subjects to be eligible to appear in the examinations. Appearance in all written and practical examination is compulsory.  The attendance of 90% will have to be maintained even for the morning classes.

vii)  Your participation in all the School activities as prescribed for you from time to time will be compulsory.

viii) You will have to maintain strict discipline as is expected by a student in any academic institution.  DECISIONS TAKEN BY THE DIRECTOR ARE FINAL.  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL YOU BE PERMITTED TO CONTACT ANY HIGHER OFFICIAL ASSOCIATED WITH THE SCHOOL OR OF THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA WITHOUT OBTAINING PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE DIRECTOR.

xi)  Any indiscipline by the student may result in suspension or expulsion from the institute, and further, his/her Diploma may be withheld even after the course is complete.
 
x)  After completion of the Three-Year course of training and passing the final examination, you  might be invited to work as an Apprentice Fellow in the School for a period of one year on the project/assignment, assigned to you by the School.  In case you refuse to accept the said project/assignment, the School will have the right to withhold your Diploma and to recover from the Surety the entire amount of scholarship with interest as paid to you by the School during the training period in the School.

xi) You will also be guided by the other rules and regulations of the School as indicated in the prospectus or as communicated to you later on.  In the interest of its academic functioning, the School reserves the right to change or modify the syllabus, rules and regulations wherever necessary and the same shall be binding on all students.

xii)  A specimen copy of the Bond with a Solvency Certificate with respect to the monthly scholarship of Rs.3000/- awarded to you by the School is also enclosed.

  1. You are required to execute the Bond on stamp paper of Rs.10/- at your expense and return the same, duly completed, so as to reach the School before 7th  July, 2009.  Please note that your admission will not be confirmed and considered VALID UNTILL THE BOND DULY EXECUTED BY YOU TOGETHER WITH THE SOLVENCY CERTIFICATE duly completed and the attested copies of your certificates of Higher Secondary or equivalent examination in support of your age and other degree examinations passed by you and full fees as indicated below are received in the School.
  2. (a) For all scholarship holders, stay in the School’s hostel and board at the hostel Mess is compulsory, subject to the availability of accommodation in the hostel.  (A copy of the Hostel & Mess Rules will be given to you later.  Kindly note that the monthly rent per seat in the hostel will be Rs.110/- per month).

The hostel facilities shall be available only during the academic year i.e. up to 15th May.  These will remain closed during the summer vacation i.e. 16th May to 14th July.  No stay in the hostel will be permitted during the summer vacation.  Students are required to bring their own mattresses and bedding.
  
  
b) You are also required to pay the following charges by a crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of the National School of Drama, New Delhi, by 7th July, 2009 latest, failing which the offer will be cancelled and given to the candidate next in the waiting list.

It is compulsory for all hostel residents to have their meals in the School Mess and fulfill whatever Mess duties are assigned to them.

d) Monthly charges such as tuition fees, hostel rent, water and electricity charges, hostel charges, Mess charges etc. will be deducted from your scholarship every month.  The Mess charges are always taken in advance.  However, in cases when the scholarship is not paid for whatsoever reason it will be your responsibility to deposit the monthly dues of the School along with Mess charges by 10th of every month.  If such dues are not paid in time you will not be allowed to attend classes and appear in the examinations. Further action as deemed suitable will also be taken against you.

e) The School provides a rigorous training which needs physical hard work to acquire professionalism.  Sound health with a medical fitness certificate from the School Doctor and Insurance Company is an important requisite and pre-condition for admission.

The admitted students are covered by a “Risk Cover Insurance Policy” and will have to pay 10% of the premium which will come to approximately Rs. 150/- to Rs.200/- annually.  The School does not take any other responsibility beyond this insurance cover.

In case you are willing to accept the offer on these terms and conditions, please intimate your acceptance to the School by 7th of July, 2009 latest, along with the fees amounting to Rs.7319/- (Rupees seven thousand three hundred nineteen only) by a crossed Demand Draft drawn in any scheduled Bank in favour of the Director, National School of Drama, and payable at New Delhi.

If you accept the offer, please ensure that the following documents are submitted to the undersigned by the 7th July, 2009, so that you can be allowed to join the School:-

  1.  Certificate of Medical Fitness from a Doctor with an MBBS degree.
  2. The Bond in the prescribed form duly signed and executed on a stamp paper of Rs.10/- with proper attestation.
  3. The Solvency Certificate of the Surety duly signed by the District Magistrate/Collector/Deputy Commissioner in the enclosed form OR a bank guarantee of the Surety from a nationalized bank is also acceptable.
  4. A declaration that you are not in receipt of and will not accept any emoluments, scholarship, stipend or any other grant from any other sources.
  5. An undertaking to the effect that during the tenure of the scholarship you will devote all your time to the course of training, and will not participate in any outside production.
  6. An undertaking to the effect that after successful completion of the course of your training, you are agreeable to serve in any capacity the School might suggest for a period of at least one year on an assured honorarium by the School or by any other agency recommended by it.
  7. An undertaking duly signed by you and countersigned by your father or guardian, as the case may be, to the effect that you are joining the course with a full understanding of the professional hazards it entails, of your own free will and that you or your father/guardian shall in no case hold the School responsible for any injury, disability or fatality caused during the course or claim any compensation from the School beyond the insurance cover.

8.   The duly filled application for hostel accommodation on the form enclosed should reach the School along with your acceptance by 7th of July, 2009.

You are required to submit the proof of your degree examination to the School on or before you join the School i.e. 27th July, 2009.   If your result is not declared by that date, the seat offered to you will be automatically treated as cancelled and given to the candidate next on the waiting list.

The new academic session will commence from Monday the 27th July, 2009 but you will be required to report in the School by the evening of 24th July, 2009 positively so that you can be medically examined by a panel of Doctors on Saturday 25th July, 2009 between 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.  In this regard, you are further advised to come on an empty stomach for the necessary medical tests scheduled for the morning of 25th July, 2009.  For more information about your medical tests you may contact Mr. B.S.Rawat in the Academic Section.

Your admission to the School is dependent on your being medically fit as advised by the Medical Board.  If you fail in this medical test your admission will be automatically treated as cancelled.
